February is for Feminism

…AND DANCING! One Billion Rising is a global campaign for women. The movement calls for an end to violence, and for justice and gender equality. On Valentine’s Day 2013, One Billion people in 207 countries rose and danced to demand an end to violence against women and girls. On 14 February 2014, we rose again for Justice.

One Billion Rising is a global campaign to end to violence against women, rise for justice and promote gender equality. The “billion” refers to the United Nations statistic that one in three women will be raped or beaten in their lifetime, or about one billion. In 2012, the One Billion Rising campaign culminated in the biggest mass global action to end violence against women ever and in 2013 and 2014 tens of thousands of events were held in more than 200 countries world wide. Port Townsend, Washington U.S.A. rose with grace and love.

I have the pleasure of facilitating local events with an incredible company of beautiful, inspiring, compassionate, friends and activists, who are the heart and soul of our local movement, Port Townsend Rising. See for yourself the incredible joy and spirit in the photos.
