Activism as Art

Olympic Mountains

If you know me then you know I have a knack for traversing emotional landscapes, most of the time gracefully and sometimes not so gracefully (I take pride in my imperfect humanness). My art comes from a place of vulnerability and passion that is greatly influenced by the natural landscapes of environment. For this reason, and so many more, I reside in an ecologically diverse and remote community where I have access to the magnificence of nature on a daily basis.  I pull my art from the places both within and without and I believe the two are synonymous; human relationship to the outer environment is a reflection to the inner environment of the emotional and physical self.

When I paint I often imagine dancing between the two, the body and the earth. Or one…the earth. Whichever way you look at it. Respect for the natural world is of great importance to me. Abuse to humans, animals, or biological regions raises my blood pressure like nothing else. We are all on this planet together and there is no tolerance for carelessness of life. We must continue to grow together and learn to respect our self, one another, and the habitats we reside within. We need to be good humans and treat all living things with reverence.

Left-Right

I have been terrible with keeping this blog interesting and updated.  Apologies! A quick shout out to say that there are many exciting and inspiring things on the horizon for 2015. Promise!

Lately my world has been solely Left Brained. Editing, budgeting, writing, rewriting, programming, learning new software, formatting images, rewording text, editing illustrations….Whew! It leaves me pretty zapped at days end though so much creative progress is being made. Somehow I used to think that I’m only being creative when my clothes are stained and my nail beds are rainbow hued. Not the case! Quite the contrary actually. In the past month I’ve been more creatively productive than in the past year. Funny how our minds trick us.

I’m feeling really excited with where this (six year old!) creative baby of mine is headed and just wanted to say, expect to hear more from me soon. Until then, many happy wishes for a gorgeous start to autumn in the northern hemisphere. Much love and light and inspiration,

Annalisa

IT’S BEEN A BEAUTIFUL SUMMER. It’s been a busy summer!

In July a friend persuaded me to join Instagram. I love it! The concept of instantly sharing life moments with a square format image reminiscent of the Kodachrome is endearing to my inner photography student who never quite mastered the art of always carrying that clunker around. This is a good thing for my attic-full of boxes of photo-prints! It is my goal to keep this creatively centered around my art and the things that inspire it. With a few extra (and unnecessary) photos of Mina the songbird pup.
